Newly published from Scott and Cathy Sibley is Building the Southern Banded Horn, a 128-page soft cover how-to guide on selecting and building the iconic southern-style powder horn. Profusely illustrated, the first half of the book takes the reader step-by-step through the process of picking a horn, making the horn bands, constructing the two-piece antler tip and turning the base plug. Each step in the process is well documented, both in text and photographs. For the aspiring horn builder, the work is a virtual classroom experience with Scott and Cathy as they demonstrate, in detail, every technique involved in the banded horn’s construction. The second half of the book is a gallery of photographs of southern banded horns divided into three sections. Pictured first are horns that Scott and Cathy have built, followed by two galleries of original southern horns in private collections that are largely unpublished. The book is a classic “how-to” that can be purchased for $29.95 (plus $4.00 shipping) from the Sibleys at: 1132 rd 7, Powell, WY 82435. The Sibleys may also be contacted by email at bigbat@tritel.net.
